About

Learning to Lead Pittsburgh is a group of high-level city leaders in their 20’s through 40’s that meets to develop personally, challenge each other, mentor younger leaders and get mentored, and collectively serve their communities.

We have a passion to see Christian leaders grow and connect with each other to make a great impact in the city of Pittsburgh! We do this through monthly breakfasts, small groups, service opportunities, and leadership events.

To listen to the history and vision of Learning to Lead, listen to Episode #64 of the Learning to Lead podcast here.

Here are a few other ways to connect with Learning to Lead Pittsburgh:

Our Story:

When Doug 17 years old, he had a mentor, Larry Bettencourt, who came into his life and started investing in him. Larry handed Doug a leadership lesson by John Maxwell. At the time, Doug had no idea that there were resources available to develop you as a leader. That was the beginning of Doug’s personal growth journey.

Larry would also bring in leaders from the community to invest in Doug and other young leaders. He encouraged them to take the leaders out to coffee to learn from them. Doug started doing that for about ten years.

In 2012, after ten years of intentional growth, Doug had an idea to start recording his time with leaders and started the Learning to Lead podcast.

In August of 2012, Doug and Laura got married. At the same time, they started hearing about a vision of making Pittsburgh more famous for God than anything else. Every time they heard that vision, they knew in their hearts that they had to do something about it.

After a lot of prayer and time spent with leaders, they determined the best way they could help make that vision come to pass was to invest in next generation leaders. They believe that if they will continually invest in leaders year after year and those leaders become leaders in at home, in their community, in the workplace, and in their city, then we will have leaders scattered all over the city who are also focused on making Pittsburgh famous for God.

In July of 2014, Doug and Laura gathered leaders on Mt. Washington to cast vision and pray over the city of Pittsburgh and it’s current and future leaders.

Learning to Lead Pittsburgh was born.
